A Trip to London, My Favourite Oscar Films & More

February 5, 2018

Well hello one and all. Welcome back to my weekly catchup post which is essentially just my way of catching up with you guys over last weeks antics. A bit more of a ~relaxed vibe~ to my usual beauty and fashion reviews, I thought it was a nice way to help us get to know one another better. This week was a little on the chilled side which was good as I have a lot of blogging to catch up as mentioned in my previous post here, so it’s nice to have some time to try and get on top of everything. Here’s my weeks highlights.

The Oscars are coming up…

And that means there are some fantastic movies coming out right now. Last week we decided to take full advantage of our Cineworld cards and cram in a couple of nights at the cinema to see some of the films which will be up for the big awards on Oscar Sunday in March. The two we saw were Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri & The Post – and both I absolutely loved.

Three Billboards was such a compelling dark comedy which really drew you into the main character, Mildred Hayes. Though it may have a sinister underlying story of a murdered daughter the film still allows you a couple of lighthearted laughs whilst also delicately weaving together a web outlining many of the social injustices people still face in this world. If there’s one film you see this month, I definitely recommend this as  a must see.

If you would rather see something perhaps a little less dark but still as utterly engaging then I would suggest The Post. Meryl Streep is a force to be reckoned with in this wonderful story of how Americas first female newspaper publisher took on not only the men who doubted her in her own office but also the American Government. A film that embodies sexism, empowering woman and Government corruption this is a fantastic way of learning more about the scandals that lay in President Nixon and his Governments attempts to hide the Pentagon Papers from the people of America.

We finally got our car keys…

Okay so something not quite as interesting as empowering woman but more of a a little life vent. Over Christmas we had our car keys stolen! A very annoying situation in which two nights before Christmas in the hustle and bustle of cramming through the door, both of us with our arms laden with shopping bags and presents did we manage to slam the door with the keys still in the lock. It wasn’t until the next day did we realise the keys were missing and after turning the house upside down we realised what must have happened. The most infuriating part is that whilst we were at home that night (probably sound asleep in our bed) someone came up to our door and took the keys.

I mean, seriously why are people such dicks?

We unfortunately only have one set of keys to our car and so not only did we wake up on Christmas Eve and realise we hastily had to change the locks on our doors but also realised we weren’t going to be driving our car around anytime soon! We let this situation drag on for a month because it turns out getting new car keys is EXPENSIVE so this week after payday we finally got our new keys. It’s funny how much you don’t realise how much you need a car until it’s actually gone!

Royal Mail are pissing me off…

Another gripe this week. Royal Mail for the THIRD time have now taken a package of mine to the depot without leaving a sorry we missed you card. I popped into the depot this week to pick up a parcel and whilst I was there the guy said oh you have another package that’s been here since the 12th of Jan. SORRY what mate? I had no idea it had arrived and thought it was just taking foreverrr in the post so imagine the frustration to find out it had been sat there waiting for me all that time. Has anyone else had any problems like this? Whats the best course of action to take because this has happened a few times now and I feel like I need to do something!

I went to London…

To see some of my best gal pals, Stacey & Laura. About 6 or more months ago now Stacey reached out on Twitter to see if anyone would be up for a little London blogging social gathering. Being a huge fan of Stacey’s content and obviously Stacey herself I immediately jumped in and said yes. Quite a few people were interested but dates were hard to find that suited everyone so in the end Stacey, Laura and I decided to meet up in the meantime. Well this was a start of a beautiful friendship as they say. We all get on so well and when I’m with them we laugh non-stop. We all instantly bonded and this is definitely one of the most wonderful things that can come out of blogging I believe, friendships.

So yes, we met in London on the weekend and spent the Saturday catching up and taking blog photos. A funny story which transpired from one of our shoots is the moment we were walking past a Shell Garage, saw an old London bus pull in and decided to run up to it and ask the bus driver if we could do a shoot whilst he filled up on fuel. He was so lovely and said yes and I can’t wait to share with you some of the snaps we took!

We also headed to the Dominique Ansel Bakery which sits on the same road as Peggy Porschen Cakes. It’s home to the popular Cronut which is essentially a croissant/ doughnut hybrid. Though a bit on the overpriced side, the bakery is very modern and cute and has a lovely outdoor area.

And that’s all for this week folks. No, but seriously that’s essentially my week in a nutshell. Soz if it was a bit random and boring but I thought it would be a nice way to bring a more chilled out side to my blog. I am totally aware that sometimes I waffle on about clothes and beauty and blah blah blah way too much. So I just wanted to add in a little more of ~me~ to my wee old internet space. Now let me love you and leave you with this weeks music playlist…
